For those of you who like to stay up to date with your favorite games on Pinterest, there is now a Legend of Us Pinterest page at http://www.pinterest.com/legendofusrpg/. I will put whatever media I publish there just so you have another way to find it and share it with your friends.
Also, I continue to try to figure out why LOU blog posts are not publishing to FB and G+ with the right pictures. Please be patient with that big white blob, I’m trying to shoo it away. I’ve made some tweaks and the proper picture should display this time. If it doesn’t, then I will keep working on it.
I feel like I spend a lot of time reinventing the wheel while trying to publicize LOU, so in an effort to help the community, I will use the rest of the post to tell a few things I have discovered in case you ever try to publicize something on the web. I realize that the simplest thing to do is pay someone else to do it, but assuming that doesn’t fit your indie budget I will share a couple of tips. All of this information is available for free other places on the web, but you have to know enough about the problem to Google a decent question about it.
When you link a post to Facebook or Google+ there is this information about the article that is sent with the article. In my case, both Jetpack (a WordPress thing) and All in One SEO (an add on for WordPress) were trying to create this Data and it was basically messing up the post. To fix this problem, the simplest thing is to go into the All in One SEO Social Meta settings and check the box that says “Disable Jetpack Tags”. I have fixed it on the LOU site but I don’t really know another way to test it other than make a post so we will find out to day if it helped.
Another thing I discovered is that under AiOSEOs Social Meta settings is a subheading called Image Source. This has a field called “Select OG:Image Source” by default it is set to use a default image and that default image is the gray and white image that has been attached to my previous FB and G+ posts. You can change this default image (which I have done) and you can set the drop down menu to cascade through a series of places to look for an image, like the featured image for the article.
So… I did these things and we’ll all see if it now uses the pictures that you see if you go to the website at http://www.legendofus.net.
