Today LOU RPG Sidekick version 1.1 has gone live! The big feature in this update is that we now have Dropbox integration. You can use Dropbox to store character sheets and send character sheets to friends via email!
As an added bonus, we have enabled you to share translucent dice. Translucent d20 and translucent d10 were given out during Christmas and Valentine’s Day seasons respectively. If you add these dice to a character sheet and then send them to someone, it will unlock these special dice on that other person’s device. Note: this does not work for dice colors, just for the translucent variants of the dice.
I have frequently found myself helping a new person get started in the world of role-playing games, and usually this involves making them a character sheet. Thus, from the beginning of this project, the ability to make a character sheet for someone else and send it to them has been, in my mind, an essential feature and I am very happy to finally release it.
Known issue: If your Dropbox is full and you try to save or share a character sheet, the app will hang with the little “thinking” symbol spinning. In the next publish I will make it stop hanging, but in the meantime you will need to close out the app (like, really close it out, not just minimize it) and then restart it.
When you send someone an email to share a character sheet, they get a link to this FAQ. One key thing from the FAQ is that when you send a character sheet not all email clients (I’m looking at you, default email client on Android) allow hotlinks. If you are sending a character sheet to someone and you don’t see the hotlinks in the email, choose a different email client to send it.
Now that you can actually take data out of the application and send it to friends, it has become necessary to have an addendum to the standard end user agreement (EULA). You will be prompted to agree to it before you can link to Dropbox. The gist of it is that you promise not to violate someone’s copyright with the app by illegally distributing their stuff, and that you understand that we (Steelman Games LLC) own the copyright to the files this app creates and you are using them by license.
It is my sincere hope that the community that uses this app will share character sheets. Role-playing games are community oriented and that is why sharing is important. All we ask is that you share responsibly.
